Combating Gender-Based Violence:

Pauper’s Legal Aid Foundation (PLAF) is firmly committed to combating gender-based violence (GBV) in all its forms and manifestations across Bangladesh. As a human rights and legal aid organization led by a dynamic team of lawyers and social activists, we recognize that gender-based violence is not only a violation of fundamental human rights but also a major barrier to social justice, equality, and sustainable development.

Gender-based violence includes physical, sexual, psychological, and economic abuse directed at individuals based on their gender. Women and girls are disproportionately affected, although men and boys may also face such violence. In Bangladesh, GBV remains a deeply rooted issue, often perpetuated by social norms, lack of awareness, economic dependency, and limited access to justice.

Our Commitment

PLAF is dedicated to creating a society where every individual—regardless of gender—can live with dignity, safety, and equal rights. Our work focuses on prevention, protection, legal support, and advocacy to address the root causes and consequences of gender-based violence.

Legal Aid and Support Services

We provide legal assistance to survivors of gender-based violence, ensuring they have access to justice without fear or financial burden. Our services include:

  • Legal consultation and case support
  • Assistance in filing complaints and pursuing legal remedies
  • Court representation by experienced lawyers
  • Support in cases related to domestic violence, sexual harassment, child marriage, dowry-related abuse, and trafficking

We handle cases with sensitivity, confidentiality, and a survivor-centered approach, ensuring that victims feel supported and empowered throughout the legal process.

Awareness and Prevention

Prevention is at the core of our mission. PLAF conducts awareness campaigns, workshops, and community dialogues to educate people about:

  • The legal consequences of gender-based violence
  • Rights of women and children under Bangladeshi law
  • The importance of gender equality and mutual respect
  • Breaking harmful social norms and stereotypes

We engage with schools, colleges, local communities, and grassroots organizations to promote behavioral change and encourage reporting of violence.

Community Engagement and Advocacy

PLAF works closely with community leaders, law enforcement agencies, and policymakers to strengthen the response to gender-based violence. We advocate for:

  • Effective implementation of existing laws
  • Policy reforms to address gaps in protection
  • Improved victim support systems
  • Increased accountability for perpetrators

By building partnerships and fostering dialogue, we aim to create a coordinated and effective approach to tackling GBV.

Empowering Survivors

Beyond legal support, PLAF believes in empowering survivors to rebuild their lives. We provide guidance, referrals, and support networks that help individuals regain confidence, independence, and social acceptance.

Our Vision

Our vision is a Bangladesh free from gender-based violence, where equality, justice, and human dignity are upheld for all. Through our dedicated efforts, we strive to create a culture where violence is not tolerated, survivors are supported, and justice is accessible to everyone.
